Community team

The community team (Gemeenschapsploeg) of the Geertrui community provides pastoral support for what used to be called “the parish”. The Geertrui community is now part of the Pastoral zone Leuven on the Dijle, in which all former parishes within the ramparts of the old city work together. The community team leads or supports, for example, Masses and liturgies of the Word in our church.

Church fabric & council

The church fabric (kerkfabriek) is a public body responsible for managing the material resources needed to support public worship in a parish. The church council (kerkraad) is the governing body of the fabric — the people who decide on finances, maintenance, and other material matters related to worship. A council typically has five members and may also include a representative of the diocese and several advisors.

The Sint-Geertrui church council consists of:

The Gertro choir rehearsing in Sint-Geertruikerk, with chief conductor Jan Breuls and singers in front of the Gothic choir screen.

Gertro choir

Together with the church fabric and the community team, the Gertro choir is simply part of parish life here at Sint-Geertruikerk. For years the choir has been part of Sunday worship — music with heart for the liturgy — under chief conductor Jan Breuls. Fancy joining? New singers are genuinely welcome. There is usually a rehearsal once a week, often on a Friday evening — ask the choir for the exact time.
