Those who lived before us have gone, Yet this old house of wood and stone still stands as a prayer to You. We pray with them—hear us now.

Church temporarily closed — worship with the Assumptionists

If you read the texts about the restoration on this website, you will see that a great deal of work has already been carried out on the building, and that much more is planned in the coming years. From October 2026 stability work will be carried out on several pillars in the church and everything will be prepared for installing a heating system. For that reason the church will unfortunately have to be closed for public worship for six months. During that time our faith community is kindly hosted by the Assumptionist fathers, close to our church in Halve Straat. Throughout that period we can gather for Sunday services together in the monastery chapel.

Solemn inauguration of the St Gertrude carillon

From 11 a.m.: solemn inauguration of our renewed St Gertrude carillon — Mass, addresses, festive reception and music. Carillonneur Marc Van Eyck plays in the carillon. In fine weather on the abbey courtyard. Everyone is welcome, and especially the generous donors who made the enlargement of the carillon possible.

Closing and thanksgiving celebration

11 a.m. closing and thanksgiving celebration: Dean Patrick Maervoet blesses the bells of our renewed carillon during the service. After Mass we close the pastoral year with an auberge espagnole (potluck) in Geertruihof. At a potluck everyone brings something to eat — soup, sandwiches, salad, pasta or dessert; we share everything on one buffet. Bring enough for how many you are (alone: for one person; family of four: for four). Prefer your own sandwiches? That is fine too — everyone is welcome. Please let us know if you are joining the meal (helps with planning). After the meal, those who wish can take part in a Geertrui meeting: we listen to suggestions and questions; everything is taken forward to the team day on Saturday 27 June. In the following days the bells will be hoisted into the tower.
